Chiefly correspondence and notebooks. Correspondence relates to Streamer's interest in government employment, requests for free railroad travel, fires in Ellensburgh and Roslyn, Wash., newspaper articles penned by Streamer, religious and philosophical views, and his advocacy of Indian rights, especially land rights. Notebooks primarily document his travels throughout the Western U.S. and Mexico with notes on the landscape and history of the regions, distance traveled, and places where and people with whom he stayed, and include copies of letters he sent to government officials. Correspondents include O.O. Howard, John Wilson, E.L. Lomax, O. Jacobs, and N.H. Owings.

Oliver Howard was born in Leeds, Maine, the son of Rowland Bailey Howard and Eliza Otis Howard. Rowland, a farmer, died when Oliver was 9 years old. Oliver attended Monmouth Academy in Monmouth, North Yarmouth Academy in Yarmouth, Kents Hill School in Readfield, and graduated from Bowdoin College in 1850 at the age of 19. Orange Jacobs (May 2, 1827-May 21, 1914) was a delegate from the Territory of Washington. He was born near Genesee Valley, New York. He moved with his parents to Michigan Territory in 1831.
